Tv-series: Person of Interest

Husband and I are always on the look-out for great tv-shows. In the past years we have been watching

  • Lost
  • 24
  • Fringe
  • Breaking Bad
  • Dexter
Last year we discovered Person of Interest. (Yes we love J.J. Adams shows!)

A software genius and an ex-CIA operative work together to prevent violent crimes before they can happen. source imdb.com

Currently we are watching the second season. And believe me it is not as sci-fi as it sounds.

The show plays in New York. Click here to see my NY reviews
Since we recently went there we now find ourselves shouting at the TV (been there, o yeah remember there you where almost hit by a yellow cab and so on and so on)
Not embarrassing at all ;-)

What is your favorite J.J Adams show?

New York: NY Public Library

In New York I wanted to visit the NY Public Library.

Striking a pose with my Strand Bookstore Tote ;-)

We were in luck, because when we walked in to this beautiful building the last tour of the day was about to start.
A really nice and funny lady (sorry, having a senior citizen moment here when she forgot to mention something) was our tourguide.

On the steps in front of the NY Public Library

Marble everywhere!

Main reading room

She told us about the building, the special rooms in the Library, the unique books they have and lots, lots more. Did you know sometimes writers rent an entire apartment within the NY Public Library? They can eat, sleep and write all in the same place! Sounds awesome, unfortunately only accesible for published writers.
Well, you'll never know, maybe one day ;-)

I loved every minute of being in this iconic building. If you are ever in New York and like, lover or adore books don't forget to visit!

What did you like best about the NY Public Library?

I also visited the Strand Bookstore

Book review: One Day by David Nicholls

A great book to read on vacation on a sunny beach (sipping away cocktails is optional ;-)

One Day by David Nicholls

Dexter and Emma spend the night together following their graduation in 1988. They talk about how they will be once they are 40. While they do not become romantically involved completely, this is the beginning of their friendship. The novel visits their lives and their relationship on July 15 in successive years in each chapter for 20 years. source: wikipedia

The format of this book makes it very interesting to read. You get older with them and it feels like you really, really know them. I've laughed out loud (which startled my sleeping husband), cried and got really angry at Dexter while I was reading this book.

It is funny, sad at times but above all it is a great must-read love story.

Fact:

edit: I watched the movie, o my! You will need a lot of tissues

Tissue rating : Between 4 and 5 packs.

Movie review: Flight

Last night we watched Flight.

An airline pilot saves a flight from crashing, but an investigation into the malfunctions reveals something troubling. source IMDB.com

The movie is 2 hours and 18 minutes. The first 20 minutes were very promising.
Airplane rolling and crashing, Denzel Washington as a bad ass character and let's not forget the completely naked stewardess in the opening scene (bonus for Husband ;-)

But from minute 21 this movie was boring, boring oh and did I mentioned it was booooooooring!
It even has a storyline on the side that is completely unnecessary. Who cares about the drug addict? We didn't, then why did Denzel?

We only watched the whole movie because every 30 minutes or so John Goodman showed up. He was amazing and funny!

If you have 2,5 hours to spare in your life I wouldn't waste it on Flight.

ps: even in the trailer the sideline story isn't shown, although it takes up at least 30 minutes of the movie.

New York : Strand Bookstore

As a true book lover I couldn't resist a visit to the Strand Bookstore in New York City.

It was charmingly chaotic with all those books. Old, new, rare and very common.

photo from Bookish NYC
They had a very cute section for children's books. There were actually children reading at the little tables and chairs! AWESOME. (I was so in awe that I totally forgot to take some pictures, dang)
Of course I couldn't leave without buying a book for my children. I wanted a cool book about New York. Since they don't speak or read English (yet), I needed a book with cute drawings.
Strand wouldn't be Strand if they didn't have just the perfect book on there shelves ;-)

My New York by Kathy Jakobsen
I bought My New York by Kathy Jakobsen. The kids really love it. They absolutely love all the foldout pages that show them around New York City. It is very informative and a great way of showing them what places we visited during our trip

foldout page Rockefeller Ice Rink and Christmas Tree
I could have spend hours and hours there, but my husband wanted to do some other sightseeing as well (and there is plenty to see in New York)

Me with a full Strand tote!
During our trip we did some more book lover stuff. NY Public Library and Morgan Library and Museum are next!
